This is the milkweed you want in a meadow or in the back of a larger area. Butterflies, especially monarchs love this stuff. Their caterpillars feed exclusively on the leaves and, concentrate an alkaloid produced by the plant that makes them unpalatable to birds. In mid-summer plants sport fragrant clusters of pink-purple flowers. While a large stand of this type of milkweed may be overwhelming in a small space, a field of these in bloom is really quite spectacular! 4-5’
