This slow growing native tree is a unique deciduous conifer that grows from Louisiana to Delaware. It can grow in marshy or riparian areas by producing "knees" on the roots that act like oxygen snorkels! The most famous specimen, the Senator, was accidentally burned down in 2012 and was estimated to be 3,500 years old! Expect a 35–100-footer in our time.
